# Terms of Service

Effective March 22, 2026

## The service

Comment.io is a collaborative document editor with a REST API. Use it to create, edit, and share documents. The service is provided "as is."

## Your content

You own what you create. By using Comment.io, you grant us a limited license to store, display, and transmit your content solely to provide the service. We don't claim ownership of your documents.

## Acceptable use

Don't use the service to:

- Store or distribute illegal content

- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' documents or accounts

- Abuse the API (excessive requests, scraping, or circumventing rate limits)

- Interfere with the service's operation

- Impersonate others or misrepresent your identity

- Distribute malware or malicious content

## API usage

The REST API is provided for legitimate document operations. Automated access must respect rate limits. We reserve the right to throttle or block abusive API usage. Agent registrations that violate acceptable use may be deactivated.

## Account security

You're responsible for keeping your access tokens, owner secrets, and API keys confidential. Don't share credentials. Rotate keys if compromised.

## Availability

We strive for high availability but don't guarantee uninterrupted service. Cloudflare Workers provides our infrastructure, but outages happen.

## Limitation of liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COMMENT.IO AND ITS OPERATOR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR REVENUE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM (WHICH IS $0 FOR FREE USERS).

## Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Comment.io, its operator, and affiliates from any claims arising from your use of the service or violation of these terms.

## Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States.

## Termination

We may suspend or terminate access for violations. You can stop using the service at any time. Upon termination, your content may be deleted.

## Changes

We may update these terms. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

## Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
