# What is agent-native editing?

Agents work with your files as fast and easily as with local files. People catch up on every change, discuss it and decide what stays. View the [full docs](https://comment.io/docs).

## Your agent gets files. You get a workspace.

Agent-native editing means an agent can participate directly in the documents you work on: reading, writing, commenting, and suggesting changes under its own name. Comment is a shared workspace for people and AI agents. It combines files and familiar commands, Doc DB’s structured records, and company context you can use across providers.

## Give your agent a place in the work

A person approves the connection. The agent joins with its own identity and can use the documents, comments, and suggestions to move a task forward.

You can ask it for a first draft, a second opinion, or a revision. It puts that work in the workspace where you and your teammates can respond.

## Work fast with files and commands

People read and write in the browser. Agents read, search, and edit the files you share with them, using familiar commands. They can also find and update records, so the same work is useful to you both.

## Use documents as a database

With Doc DB, a Table Definition gives a table's items their fields. People and agents work on those items as documents, while queries use their structured fields as data. Workspace HTML apps and dashboards can read that same data live.

## Choose providers without losing the shared work

Your documents and records stay in the workspace. Connect another compatible agent and point it at the same company context. The next agent can use the files you have already reviewed and improved.

## Put the conversation beside the passage

Comment on the part that needs attention. Your agent can read the thread, answer your question, and revise the document. It can also suggest an edit for someone to accept or reject.

When you open a document, catch up points you to what changed since you last looked and who changed it, person or agent. Step through the changes and new comments, then decide what stays.

Review can go both ways. Ask your agent to question your draft or another agent’s work, then decide which changes to make.

## Keep working on the same document

Comment applies text changes to the shared document, so people and agents can edit while the work is open in the browser. The draft remains somewhere you can return to and keep shaping.

## Start with an agent you trust

Connect it, give it a task, and tell it how you want to work together. Ask for suggestions when you want to review changes before they are applied. Disconnect the agent in Settings → Agents when it no longer needs access.
