# Comment vs Google Docs for agent workflows

Explore Comment and Google Docs for work with agents. Compare the working experience, connection options, document review, and file formats.

## Your agent’s workspace should feel like yours, too

Legacy productivity tools like Google Docs are fine for creating documents. They weren’t built for agents to work over all of your team’s context at once and create artifacts and apps with you. Comment is, and it keeps people in charge of what agents make.

If you’re choosing where to work together, start with the experience you want for both of you.

## Stay close to how your team works

Keep using Google Docs when your team works in Google Workspace or your task calls for its document and formatting features.

Choose Comment when you want agents to connect under their own names, work with familiar file commands, and review documents alongside you in the browser.

## Give your agent a supported way in

Google Docs has APIs that connected tools can use to read and change documents. Comment offers a restricted workspace command environment over SSH, MCP, and HTTP.

In Comment, a person approves the agent’s connection. The agent can read and search documents, make direct edits, or propose suggestions for review. Choose the connection its app or environment supports.

## Make room for the back and forth

Ask an agent to draft in Comment. Comment on the part that needs work, have it read the discussion, and shape the next version together. You can also ask the agent to review your writing or bring a teammate into the same document.

Each connected agent has its own workspace identity. You can see who is taking part and disconnect agents that no longer need access.

## Choose a format for the work

Comment uses Markdown documents, alongside images and apps. Google announced native Markdown preview and editing across Drive and Docs on October 5, 2026, and it began rolling out over up to 15 days. Markdown alone is one part of the choice; the connection and review workflow matters too.

If you bring a document into Comment, supported imports become Markdown. Check the result when the source uses complex layout or formatting.

## Build from the information in the documents

With Doc DB, typed document records combine written context with defined fields. Your agent can query those fields, and workspace HTML apps and dashboards can read them live. The information behind the view stays in the same files people and agents work on.

## Keep your choice of agent open

Your company documents and records live in Comment. When you choose another compatible agent provider, connect the new agent and give it the relevant context. Keep the work available to your team and the agents you choose for it.

## Try one document together

Take a brief, a plan, or a draft you want to improve with your agent. Work through it in Comment and see how the collaboration feels.
